This introduction will explain the vision of the TIA Inside Wiring suite of standards. How they interrelate and the differences in applications for inside cabling.

The Internet of Things and it’s horizontal impact across industries such as healthcare, education, transportation, manufacturing, and retail, will grow demands of mobility and connectivity on the next generation of networks, causing a paradigm shift in the ratio of bandwidth reaching and demanded by users. In response, data centers will need to reconsider their design and operations.

This presentation will cover the best practices that respond to these major industry trends:

1. Network architecture of a typical data center: 2 schools of thought.
2. Transceivers are ruling the data center industry: Planning is key.
3. 10G/40G/100G… and future 400G: Line rate scalability is inevitable.
4. Data to the users and machines: Mobility, IoT – 5G wireless network, new applications and innovations.

This workshop will provide an overview of the soon to be published ANSI/TIA-5018 Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) cabling document. TIA TSB-5018 is in the final stage of balloting and is likely to be approved for publication in June 2016.

TIA TSB-5018 covers different topologies and media types used for DAS cabling including single mode fiber, multimode fiber, Category 6A cabling, and related antenna cabling. It recommends a pre-cabling grid approach with the size of the grid to be confirmed by a site survey using RF instruments and software. The document includes illustrations of the cabling topologies associated with different media types including distance restrictions, routing recommendations, and possible convergence with wireless topologies. The workshop is intended to be interactive and cover practical situations that are encountered in DAS cabling networks.

As the range of applications, topologies, and needs grows with the expansion of IoT, so do the connectivity and media requirements. This presentation will explore emerging copper & fiber solutions that support higher data rates and challenging PoE applications.

The discussion will include:

• Category 8 channels-cabling and connector systems
• PoE applications, evolution and standards development
• Single-pair Ethernet
• Emerging fiber solutions such as Wideband MMF and “Bend Resistant” fibers
• Optical transceiver landscape (parallel optics & WDM variants for the LAN)

Much of the conversation around telecommunications cabling centers around speeds and bandwidth, however there's one big application that is often overlooked: Power. We will discuss the industry drivers and demands, where remote powering of devices started, where it's going and the profound impact it's having on the Internet of Things (IoT) and Intelligent Buildings.

This workshop will provide an overview of the recently published ANSI/TIA-5017 Physical Network Security Standard. ANSI/TIA-5017 standard stands apart from other security documents because it provides a working platform and framework to build fundamental features of security into every stage of the design, build, and operation cycle of the telecommunications infrastructure. It addresses security at the unit level by specifying security of individual infrastructure elements and at the system level where the integrated infrastructure design has to be put together with security as a primary consideration.

ANSI/TIA-5017 includes several advanced features and functions that enhance the security of the physical infrastructure as well as the premises by using the network as a sentinel monitoring the activities in the premise. The workshop will include examples of ANSI/TIA-5017 features to protect the telecommunications infrastructure, while also using it as an intelligent instrument to protect the premise as a whole. The workshop is intended to be interactive and cover practical situations that are encountered in different types of premises including data centers, education, offices, and critical installations.
